(Kinship, Caste and Class)

This chapter explores the structure of ancient Indian society, focusing on the concepts of kinship, caste, and class—their historical evolution, characteristics, and impact on society.

(Introduction)

The structure of Indian society has been very complex. Elements such as family, kinship, caste, and class determined social relations. Kinship identifies family and lineage, caste determines social status and occupation, and class clarifies economic and social stratification. Together, they defined the diversity and unity of Indian society.
